Carbon Neutrality Roadmap

The Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality identifies specific actions to be taken at the value chain level, in order to make the olive oil sector more sustainable and competitive, with the priority of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The document presents an analysis of national and international plans and instruments, an overview of the sector and its performance, followed by the priority options identification for decarbonisation and, finally, a structured strategy for carbon neutrality in the sector.
Roadmap
As a fundamental tool for carbon neutrality, but also for water and energy efficiency in the sector, a support guide has been developed on the use of precision farming tools and equipment in olive groves.
Precision Farming Guide

Carbon Footprint Calculation

A diagnostic and self-assessment tool that allows companies in the sector to calculate their carbon footprint, highlighting areas with the greatest potential for intervention. Considering the life cycle of a product, this platform supports companies in making their production processes more sustainable.

The tool consists of a questionnaire that measures the footprint at all stages of production, taking into account the different realities of each company in the sector. Once this data has been submitted, a personalised report on decarbonisation is made available.

Repository of best practices in sustainability, focusing on decarbonisation and national and international technological solutions that can be implemented by companies in the olive oil sector in Portugal.

Technical Content

Support content for entrepreneurs and stakeholders in the sector, which presents a technical and more practical summary of the different topics addressed in the Roadmap (main sources of greenhouse gas emissions; measurement, best practices and financing for decarbonisation; energy efficiency, use of waste and by-products, etc.) and which were also topics of debate in the workshops already held.

Online Training

150-hour training plan (6 sessions of 25 hours each), aimed at entrepreneurs and workers in the sector, with the aim of providing technical and management skills in the field of the Olive Oil Sector's RNC, the Decarbonisation Platform, and solutions for reviewing processes, making them more sustainable and effective, with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of companies in Portugal.
